University of San Diego to Feature Prominent Pro-Abortion Speaker

Andrea Smith, a pro-abortion activist, is scheduled to present the 2007 Eugene Labovitz Lecture at the University of San Diego on Oct. 5.   It is part of the university's annual Social Issues Conference held during the first week of October.

Smith is a co-founder of the feminist group Incite! Women of Color Against Violence.  As part of its agenda, the organization advocates that Native American women "have the same access to abortion services as other women."

The California Catholic Daily website says, "The Pro-Choice Public Education Project lists Andrea Smith (along with Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger) as one of a 'few trailblazers of the reproductive rights movement to know about.'"

The keynote speaker for the conference is Thich Nhat Hanh, a Buddhist monk and peace activist.  He has founded four Order of Interbeing monasteries in California, Mississippi and Vermont.  The University of San Diego identifies itself on its website as "a Roman Catholic institution."
