Pope Benedict Bestows Prestigious Award on Two CUA Administrators

(8/29/08)  The Benemerenti Medal was instituted by Pope Gregory XVI in 1832.

On behalf of Pope Benedict XVI, Archbishop Donald Wuerl presented Frank Persico, vice president for university relations, and Craig Parker, associate vice president, with the Benemerenti Medal at The Catholic University of America’s opening Mass. CUA President Father David O’Connell said, “In honoring Frank and Craig, Our Holy Father has also honored The Catholic University of America and the lives of so many faculty, staff and students whom they have served over these many years.” The Benemerenti Medal was instituted by Pope Gregory XVI in 1832. It is “conferred upon those individuals who have exhibited long and exceptional service to the Catholic Church.” Source: The Catholic University of America
