(1/13/09) Inaugural lecture focuses on the motto "The Cross is our only Hope"
The University of Notre Dame is commemorating the feast day of Blessed Anthony Moreau, a nineteenth-century French priest who founded the Congregation of the Holy Cross, from January 19 through 22, 2009. Events will include a prayer vigil for vocations to the Holy Cross Order and for Father Moreau’s canonization, a Mass on the feast day itself featuring specially prepared sacred music, a discussion entitled “Men in Black: Holy Cross Stories,” and the inaugural Blessed Basil Moreau Lecture which will focus on the Holy Cross motto, “The Cross is our only Hope.” Notre Dame was founded by Father Edward Sorin, of the Congregation of the Holy Cross, in 1842. The congregation permeates the life of the university to this day. Source: Notre Dame
