(10/2/09) "I got the strong sense that Father Shea has sparked a transcendent confidence on campus."
Kathryn Jean Lopez, a contributor to The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College, wrote an article for the October 11-17 edition of The National Catholic Register about the installation of Father James Patrick Shea as president of University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. Fr. Shea, borrowing themes from the Holy Father’s Address to Catholic Educators, emphasized the complementarity of faith and reason and the dangers of secularism during his inaugural speech. He also placed emphasis upon traditional Benedictine values in line with the Benedictine founding of the university. Lopez wrote of her visit to the university, “I got the strong sense that Father Shea has sparked a transcendent confidence on campus.” Concluding, Lopez wrote, “Inaugural weekend at this small Catholic college seemed to be a direct response” to Pope Benedict’s instruction to “Bear witness to hope.” Source: NC Register
