(11/6/09) Grand Knight: "[W]e are a Catholic university and we want to promote Catholic values."
An article in The Catholic Spirit reports that the Knights of Columbus Council from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, funded a new Memorial to the Unborn on campus. The monument includes the image of Our Lady of the Streets and the following quote from Pope Benedict XVI: “Each of us is a result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed. Each of us is loved. Each of us is necessary.” Grand Knight Paul Shovelain, a St. Thomas senior, told the newspaper that the memorial is a tribute to all aborted children and is a public witness against abortion. He noted that not all St. Thomas students are Catholic and not everyone agrees with the council’s new memorial, “But we are a Catholic university and we want to promote Catholic values.” He added, “We’re here to help Archbishop Nienstedt and Bishop Pichè however we can.” The article reports that, according to Shovelain, the St. Thomas council now hopes to get crucifixes put back into every classroom.
