Magdalen College has announced the establishment of four academic, full-tuition scholarships, in honor of Pope Benedict XVI.  The full-tuition scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen “who write a compelling essay in response to one of Pope Benedict XVI^th’s encyclicals—Deus Caritas est, Spe salvi, or Caritas in veritate—demonstrating their close reading of the encyclical and careful reflection upon its meaning for lay Catholics at the beginning of the twenty-first century.”  Other SAT and g.p.a. requirements apply.  Jeffrey Karls, the president of Magdalen, will convene a committee in order to determine the awarding of the scholarships after the College’s March 1, 2010 application deadline.  The College requests that those interested e-mail George Harne, academic dean, for more information.
