(11/16/09) The four full-tuition scholarships are to be awarded to incoming freshmen . . .
Magdalen College has announced the establishment of four academic, full-tuition scholarships, in honor of Pope Benedict XVI. The full-tuition scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen “who write a compelling essay in response to one of Pope Benedict XVIth’s encyclicals—Deus Caritas est, Spe salvi, or Caritas in veritate—demonstrating their close reading of the encyclical and careful reflection upon its meaning for lay Catholics at the beginning of the twenty-first century.” Other SAT and g.p.a. requirements apply. Jeffrey Karls, the president of Magdalen, will convene a committee in order to determine the awarding of the scholarships after the College’s March 1, 2010 application deadline. The College requests that those interested e-mail George Harne, academic dean, for more information.
