Aquinas College

For more than 150 years, the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia (the “Nashville Dominicans”) have been a dynamic Catholic presence in Nashville, Tennessee, and in Catholic education nationwide. The growing order serves more than 45 Catholic schools in the United States, with Aquinas College their center for undergraduate formation and educator training.

All Nashville Dominicans study at the College during their initial years of formation. Lay students are also welcome and benefit from being immersed in the Dominican charisms of preaching and the salvation of souls, but they do not reside on campus.

Aquinas College offers undergraduate degree programs in history, English, liberal arts, and teaching. The liberal arts core curriculum includes two theology and two philosophy courses for education majors and three each for other majors. All theology faculty have the mandatum, and all students and faculty at the College are Catholic.

The Dominican Sisters attend daily Mass at the Motherhouse and lay students at St. Thomas Hospital, a five-minute walk from campus. Daily Eucharistic adoration is available in the Corpus Christi Chapel. Mass and Confession are offered periodically on campus, and there are two annual campus-wide Masses.

Aquinas College rejects federal student aid to avoid government restrictions, but financial aid and scholarships are available from the College. For local students or others who are prepared to live independently, Aquinas College offers a faithfully Catholic education with the inspiring Dominican Sisters. It is especially attractive for students called to teach in Catholic schools.

What we really like:

Aquinas College and the Dominican Sisters are doing the important and urgently needed work of providing teachers for faithful Catholic education worldwide. The College is home to two important apostolates, the Center for Catholic Education and the Center for Evangelization and Catechesis, with occasional events on campus.
