The Common Core State Standards—developed with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and promoted with federal grants from the Obama administration—were adopted rapidly by most states and even many Catholic schools and dioceses. But they were never designed for Catholic education, and in many respects they do not serve the Catholic school mission.
The Cardinal Newman Society believes that the core of any Catholic school is its mission of evangelization, integral formation of mind-body-soul, Christian community in witness to the Gospel, and Catholic worldview. We advocate genuinely Catholic standards for Catholic education, since its success begins with its Catholic mission.
