The Newman Guide 2026-2027 Celebrates Rapidly Growing Faithful Catholic Education
The Cardinal Newman Society is thrilled to announce the 2026-2027 edition of The Newman Guide, which recommends more faithful Catholic education than ever before—a two-thirds increase of 71 institutions and programs since last year’s edition.
It will be released on October 9, which this year is the first feast day of St. John Henry Cardinal Newman since Pope Leo named him Doctor of the Church and Patron of Catholic Education.
“The Newman Guide is our gift to Catholic families and to our patron, Cardinal Newman,” said Patrick Reilly, president and founder of The Cardinal Newman Society. “With so many prayers raised up to him over the last year, and his deep concern for Catholic lay people in the modern world, we attribute to his intercession the amazing increase in educators who are embracing his holy example of faithful Catholic education.”
The new edition includes 179 recommendations for faithful Catholic education, including 73 schools in grades K-12, seven curriculum providers for schools and homeschools, 24 undergraduate colleges, and 75 graduate programs. Because of the Newman Guide process, these institutions are stronger in their Catholic identity and better protected from legal and ideological threats that can lead to compromise and corruption of their Catholic mission.
“The growth of The Newman Guide is exciting proof of the renewal of Catholic education,” said Kelly Salomon, vice president of Newman Guide programs at The Cardinal Newman Society. “These educators have worked hard, sometimes several months, to achieve Newman Guide status and meet the high standards of Catholic families who need serious Catholic formation.”
Families can order the 2026-27 edition in digest-sized print format or request the free digital e-book version at CardinalNewmanSociety.org/Guide.
The Newman Guide is the gold standard of faithful Catholic education. The Cardinal Newman Society has produced The Newman Guide since 2007, advancing its mission of promoting and defending faithful Catholic education.
The 2026-27 edition explains the importance of a Newman Guide Recommended education for students at all age levels to:
- grow in faith, virtue, knowledge, and wisdom;
- make good friends while having wholesome fun;
- prepare for success in any future endeavor; and
- become who God wants them to be!
While much of American education has been distorted by false ideologies and rejects the truths of our Catholic faith, Newman Guide Recommended education prepares students to live holy and fulfilling lives, as God intended.
Becoming a Newman Guide Recommended institution requires a thorough review for compliance with Newman Guide policy and curriculum standards, ensuring fidelity to Catholic teaching and the mission of Catholic education. In an increasingly secular society that tries to force Catholic educators to compromise the Faith, The Cardinal Newman Society helps educators who are serious about achieving Newman Guide recognition to defend their mission and provide strong Catholic formation.
Catholic families are encouraged to share The Newman Guide with family and friends and check the updated Newman Guide lists online periodically, as The Cardinal Newman Society continues to add new recommendations.
