When schools keep parents in the dark
Should schools be allowed to keep parents in the dark about what they’re teaching—or doing with—their children?
On October 27, the U.S. Justice Department sued Anne Arundel County Public Schools in Maryland, alleging that school officials secretly facilitated the “gender transitions” of students without parental knowledge or consent.
The controversy underscores a fundamental truth of Catholic teaching: Parents are the primary educators of their children—not the government or schools.
That responsibility includes their children’s moral and spiritual formation. Schools should be partners with parents, not obstacles to their God-given responsibilities.
Not only are these public schools in Maryland reportedly undermining parent rights, they’re disregarding the truth of human biology—and God’s design of human beings as male and female.
Children deserve an education rooted in the Truth of Jesus Christ that respects the dignity of every human person and forms young people in faith, wisdom, and virtue.
And parents shouldn’t have to worry that their children’s education is undermining the truths they’re teaching at home.
