Employers Still Want College Grads… But Why?
Despite sliding American confidence in higher education, especially in the uncertain age of AI, employers don’t share the anxiety. Why not?
A Gallup poll finds that 80 percent of U.S. employers prefer a job candidate with a college degree, even when the duties don’t require one. Most have a great deal (26%) or quite a lot (34%) of confidence in higher education. And half (48%) believe a college degree will be more important, not less, as AI progresses.
Are they confident, because most universities seem prepared to jettison the last traces of liberal education and focus on the AI economy? Perhaps. But the real promise of education today is not in the diploma mills. It’s found in faithful Catholic education — Newman Guide education — which helps students to be more fully human by cultivating reason, Christian virtue, and communion with God. Their graduates will be above AI, not under it.
