Path to Newman Guide Recommended Status
EMBRACE
Step 1. Embrace the Principles of Catholic Education
- Ensure your school leaders and employees embrace the Principles of Catholic Education, a synthesis of key principles in Vatican documents on Catholic education.
- Use the Newman Guide StART Tool to reflect upon your school’s activities and assess whether they conform to the Principles.
ADOPT
Step 2. Adopt Newman Guide Standards
- The Newman Guide Policy Standards address key functions and policies across Catholic education and are the basis for Newman Guide recognition
- The Catholic Curriculum Standards guide curriculum development for Catholic schools: adopt them entirely, by section, or conform them to your existing standards.
- The Standards for Christian Anthropology, developed with Ruah Woods Press, guide education on the Theology of the Body.
ACHIEVE
Step 3. Achieve Newman Guide Recommended Status
- When ready, apply for Newman Guide recognition. The Cardinal Newman Society staff will review your school and work with leaders to fully meet each requirement. You’ll be very proud of the result!
- Renew your Newman Guide Recommended status every five years. The renewal process is usually much faster than a first-time application.
THRIVE
Step 4. Thrive from the benefits of Newman Guide recognition
- Upon approval, The Cardinal Newman Society will promote your Newman Guide Recommended school as a model of faithful Catholic education.
- The Newman Guide Network helps strengthen and protect Newman Guide Recommended institutions through leader working groups, webinars, conferences, collaborative projects, shared costs and resources, and defense against threats to fidelity and religious freedom. It forges relationships across all levels of Newman Guide education, allowing your institution to grow, build, and thrive.
